About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Java / AS400 Developer to join the technology team. The role will be responsible for developing, enhancing, maintaining and supporting enterprise applications across modern Java technologies and established IBM i/AS400 environments. The ideal candidate will be a senior technical professional who can contribute hands on to development and production support while also guiding and coordinating team members and supporting technical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance and maintain enterprise applications using Java and related technologies.
- Work extensively with IBM i / AS400 / iSeries environments and applications.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, database procedures and data-related solutions.
- Work with existing enterprise and legacy applications, ensuring reliability and continuity of business-critical systems.
- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Troubleshoot application issues, perform root-cause analysis and provide timely production support.
- Support system integration and interfaces between applications and enterprise systems.
- Participate in application enhancements, upgrades, testing and deployment activities.
- Review existing code and recommend improvements for performance, maintainability and reliability.
- Collaborate with business users, technical teams and other stakeholders to understand requirements and resolve issues.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members.
- Support task allocation, technical coordination and day-to-day activities within the development team.
- Prepare technical documentation and maintain appropriate development and support documentation.
- Contribute to improving development practices, application stability and overall system efficiency.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of overall professional IT/software development experience.
- 3–4+ years of professional experience in the UAE.
- Strong hands-on experience in Java development.
- Strong experience with SQL and database-driven applications.
- Hands-on experience with IBM i / AS400 / iSeries servers and environments.
- Experience working with enterprise applications and legacy systems.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to understand existing systems, analyze technical issues and implement solutions.
- Good understanding of software development lifecycle and application maintenance.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work as a senior technical member of a team and guide/handle team activities.
Good to Have
- Experience with COBOL / COBOL-based AS400 applications.
- Experience with DB2 for i.
- Experience integrating Java applications with IBM i/AS400 systems.
- Experience in application modernization or migration from legacy platforms.
- Experience in automotive, manufacturing, logistics, supply chain or distribution environments.
- Experience working in a structured enterprise/corporate environment.
- Exposure to Agile development methodologies and modern development practices.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be a senior hands-on developer with strong Java, SQL and IBM i/AS400 experience, who is also capable of taking ownership of technical activities, guiding team members and acting as a senior technical resource within the team.
COBOL experience will be considered an added advantage.
