Job description

We are seeking a skilled IT Database Engineer to manage, maintain, and enhance our organization’s database systems. The ideal candidate will have the expertise to integrate web application data with our database, oversee the database’s content and access, and manage data-sharing processes within the organization and with external partners. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for designing database structures, including tables and attributes, and creating a translator database to ensure compatibility and seamless integration with external systems. This is an onsite role based in Abu Dhabi, requiring a high degree of independence and the ability to perform effectively under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

Database Design & Development

  • Design and implement database structures, including tables, relationships, and attributes, to meet business and application requirements.
  • Create a translator database to map and align attributes between our organization’s database and external partners’ systems.
  • Optimize database schema and queries for efficiency and scalability.

Web Application Data Integration

  • Develop processes to integrate data from web applications into the database.
  • Ensure secure and reliable data flow between the web application and database systems.
  • Design APIs or middleware for seamless data exchange between the web application and the database.
  • Ability to build an API to be in between the organization database and the external database once retrieved and before overwriting to take approval before uploading it in the database

Data Management & Security

  • Define and manage policies for what data gets added, shared, or modified within the database.
  • Implement user access controls to ensure data is only accessible to authorized personnel.
  • Maintain data integrity, consistency, and security standards across the database system.

External Database Integration

  • Collaborate with external organizations to integrate their databases with ours, ensuring smooth data exchange.
  • Analyze and map attributes between the two databases to ensure compatibility.
  • Build and manage data pipelines to facilitate data synchronization and sharing across organizations.

Database Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Monitor database performance, usage, and storage requirements.
  • Identify and resolve database issues, including query performance, errors, and downtime.
  • Implement backup and recovery plans to safeguard against data loss.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work closely with developers, analysts, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and provide database solutions.
  • Document database structures, processes, and integration methods for internal use and future scalability.
  • Train internal teams on database usage and best practices for data handling.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of database design, management, and optimization (e.g.,relational databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server).
  • Experience with database integration and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
  • Proficiency in query languages like SQL and scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with API development and data integration tools.
  • Knowledge of database security best practices and user access control systems.

Integration Expertise

  • Proven experience in integrating internal databases with external organizational databases.
  • Knowledge of data mapping and translator database design.

Personal Capabilities

  • Ability to work onsite in Abu Dhabi as part of a dynamic team.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong resilience and the capability to perform effectively under pressure in fast paced environments.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to handling database challenges.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a database engineer, database administrator, or in a similar role.
  • Experience with web application integration is highly desirable.
  • Experience with database integration.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge in building local databases (e.g., SQL, Oracle Workbench).
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) and hybrid database architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with data modelling tools and frameworks.
  • Certification in database technologies (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database).
